Boat Speaker Replacement Guide — All Brands
DC Gold Audio builds waterproof speakers designed to outlast the boat they're mounted on. No tweeters. No crossovers. No planned obsolescence. A design lineage dating back over 40 years to Babb Engineering — the same engineers who built cockpit speakers for production boats in the 1970s.
If your marine speakers have failed, this guide will help you find the right DC Gold replacement for your specific boat. Every order includes fitment confirmation before a single speaker is built — nothing ships until it's right.

How to Measure Your Boat Speaker Cutout
Before ordering any replacement speaker, measure the hole in the fiberglass — not the speaker itself, the cutout. Remove the existing speaker, set it aside, and measure the opening left in the fiberglass or mounting surface. That measurement is your cutout diameter.
Most marine boats built after 2000 use standard 6.5" cutouts in cockpit, bow, and cabin positions. The DC Gold N7C and N7R have a 6.23" cutout diameter — they drop directly into those positions with no modification. The 7.4" face OD covers the factory grille ring cleanly.
If your factory hole is slightly smaller than the DC Gold cutout: fiberglass enlarges easily with a standard hole saw or router. DC Gold provides the exact target dimension before your order is built.
If your factory hole is slightly larger than the DC Gold cutout: a trim plate covers the gap cleanly. Trim plates are available at West Marine and most marine hardware suppliers, or easily cut from Starboard or ABS sheet.
Not sure about your cutout? Contact DC Gold with your boat brand, model, and year. They confirm cutout dimensions, depth clearance, and impedance match for every order before building.
Classic or Reference — Which Should You Choose?
If you're not sure, choose Classic. It's what most DC Gold customers select, and it's built to the same durability standard as Reference. Both are identical in physical dimensions and drop into the same cutouts.
- Classic — Aluminum/magnesium alloy cone. Optimized for high output at running speed, in wind and engine noise. Indistinguishable from Reference at speed.
- Reference — Same cone with an additional carbon nano-tube composite dust cap. Produces audibly cleaner midrange detail at anchor, at idle, or at low cruising speed. Worth the premium if you listen seriously when the boat is stationary.
Why DC Gold Speakers Last Longer
Every conventional marine speaker uses a tweeter. Tweeters corrode in salt air, stiffen under UV, and fail from vibration. Every conventional marine speaker uses a passive crossover. Crossover capacitors corrode in humid air. The signal path degrades whether you notice it or not.
DC Gold eliminates both. One full-range driver. One cone. One coil. One signal path with nothing to corrode and nothing to fail. Combined with an aluminum and magnesium alloy cone that doesn't absorb moisture, a UV-stabilized foam surround, and a ferrofluid-cooled voice coil — DC Gold speakers are engineered from the start to last in the conditions that destroy conventional marine speakers.
Most DC Gold models can also be returned to the factory in Palmdale, California for a full overhaul — new surround, new voice coil, refreshed components — for a fraction of replacement cost. Very few marine speaker manufacturers design for serviceability. DC Gold does.
Not Sure Which Speaker You Need?
